Entry requirements

Bachelor´s degree, consisting of 180 Higher Education credits or equivalent and General eligibility + the equivalent of English course B in Swedish secondary school.


Leadership and organization skills are needed in broad range of different areas. Students are expected to come from different fields and develop general knowledge of leadership and organization and specialized knowledge with respect to their particular areas of interest and previous training.

Project Management and Organization is divided into several modules. The introductory module provides an overview of models and strategies for organizing projects and for working with organizational development. After the introduction a series of themes is introduced. Each theme taught by a different researcher. Examples of such themes include, creativity in projects, challenges of inter-organizational projects, projects for social development, learning organizations and process management. In each theme students will read some common literature but will also be required to find and synthesize relevant research on their own in relation to their field of interest. In parallel with discussions on different themes students are expected to develop their thesis or project work, which provides a culmination of the student’s studies during the course.

The course in Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation is divided into two parts, each consisting of 15 ECTS credits,that follows each other. One part, Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation, deals with the theoretical and empirical understanding of the field and is organized thematically. Students will not only read relevant literature on the subject, but also take part in seminars and field trips in order to get first hand knowledge of the issues that affect social entrepreneurs and their organizations. Important themes in this part of the course include Network and support structures, Logics of social innovation and Transcending boundaries.
The second part of the course is the Thesis or project work. Here students have an opportunity to focus on issues in which they have a special interest. This task can be completed individually or by two or three students working as a team.

Knowledge and understanding
Upon completing this programme students will:

  • have an understanding of the challenges involved in organizational development and project management
  • have acquired a set of perspectives and tools for approaching the challenges of organizational development and particularly different approaches to project management
  • have and understanding of how these tools relate to creating and sustaining a coalition of stakeholders where stakeholders may have highly different understandings and incentives.
  • have knowledge of a number of different models and techniques for broad stakeholder involvement including new forms of interactive media
  • demonstrate insight into current research within leadership and organization and particular within issues of sustainable development. Students will develop deeper insight into that part of the field that constitutes the student’s specific area of interest.
  • be able to discuss basic values underpinning social entrepreneurship and sustainable development
  • acquire a critical understanding of the field of social entrepreneurship and innovation

Skills and competences
Upon completing this programme students will:
  • be able to make informed decisions on choice of management models, strategies of communication and in handling a project’s relation to its organizational context
  • be able to find, evaluate and synthesize current research on social entrepreneurship, project management and organizational development related to the student’s particular area of interest.
  • demonstrate ability to lead in practice, particularly in relation to small groups
  • be able to identify and assess ethical issues in balancing the interests of different stakeholders with an end toward creating sustainable development
  • be able to critically reflect on the social entrepreneur as a change agent
  • demonstrate methodological skills in leadership and organization studies.

Judgement and approach
Upon completing this programme students will:
  • be able to assess challenges involved in a project or organizational development and feel confident to take a leadership role in areas suited to their competence
  • be able to argue for an approach to organizational development based on a developed understanding of it’s implications for sustainable development.
  • be able to critically and reflexively relate to contemporary research and discourse on projects, innovation and social entrepreneurship
